Recently, BMWC’s Project Engineers had the opportunity to participate in hands-on welding training at Local 440’s training center. This training was led by Eric Stevenson, BMWC’s Corporate Quality Director. PEs traveled from multiple regions to participate in the immersive session, gaining firsthand exposure to safety standards, welding processes, and quality expectations.

The training gave participants a chance to step into the booth and better understand the work that happens in the field every day. Through guided instruction and hands-on practice, the group learned the fundamentals of different welding types while seeing firsthand the precision and discipline required to complete work safely and successfully. For many, the experience reshaped their view of field operations.

Dave Kaczur, PE II in Munster, shared:

Going to weld training has allowed me to have a better understanding of how work gets done in the field. It shows some of the challenges our craft face during projects for BMWC. I have definitely gained more respect for the craftspeople and an understanding of what goes into welding.”

Victoria Kolar, PE III in Munster, reflected on her experience as well:

“Welding Training was a great introduction to the basics and overall knowledge of different welding types, safety, and quality expectations. The hands-on experience was one of my favorite parts. I am grateful for the experience!”

Overall, the training provided PEs with valuable insight into welding, strengthening the connection between the field and the office through shared understanding and experience.
